Vitamin C

Multiple scientific sources establish that Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that can strengthen your body’s natural defenses. According to Healthline, consuming more Vitamin C can increase your blood antioxidant levels by up to 30%. Its antioxidant activity may help reduce inflammation and lower the risk of developing various health conditions.

WebMd suggests paying attention to the signs that show you aren’t consuming enough of Vitamin C:

  • Weight gain. Early research has found a link between low levels of Vitamin C and higher amounts of body fat, especially belly fat.

  • Dry, wrinkled skin. People who eat a healthy diet with plenty of Vitamin C may have smoother, softer skin.

  • Feeling tired. One study of 141 office workers found that giving them Vitamin C made them feel less tired within 2 hours.

  • Slow wound healing;

  • Bleeding gums, nosebleeds, bruises. One study found that people with gum disease who ate grapefruit for two weeks noticed their gums didn’t bleed as much.

  • Vision loss. Getting enough Vitamin C from foods or supplements might help prevent cataracts.

  • Scurvy. This disease is relatively rare today but possible if you get only 10 mg/day of Vitamin C or less.

It is known, that Vitamin C is water soluble and the body does not store it. In order to maintain necessary levels of Vitamin C, people need to consume food that contains it every day.

According to WebMd, if you eat a balanced diet, it is relatively easy to get enough of Vitamin C. WebMd recommends getting:

  • 75 milligrams of Vitamin C per day for adult women;

  • 90 milligrams per day for men.

According to WebMD, some experts suggest taking 200mg of Vitamin C daily for COVID-19 prevention or 1-2 grams daily for COVID-19 treatment.

Stay safe!
